International Day in Support of Victims of Torture (26 June 2017)
On this International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, we reaffirm our commitment to combat this unacceptable practice in all its forms.
France calls for the respect of the absolute ban on torture in all circumstances in accordance with international law, and encourages those nations that have not yet done so to join the Convention against Torture as well as its Optional Protocol.
We remain particularly committed to opposing the torture committed in Syria, for example by turning over the photos of the Caesar Report to the courts and calling for an international investigation to shed light on the crimes committed in Sednaya Prison. France reiterates its support for the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Syrian Arab Republic chaired by Paulo Sergio Pinheiro.
