Closing of the Generation Equality Forum
The Generation Equality Forum is the largest global gathering for gender equality of the last 25 years. It is co-chaired by France and Mexico.
After a launch in Mexico City in March 2021, the Forum concluded in Paris from June 30 to July 2.
It brought together heads of state and government, representatives of international organizations, civil society and the private sector.
A global plan to accelerate equality and concrete and ambitious commitments was adopted.
The opening ceremony of the forum was hosted by the French President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron, alongside with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Mexico and France.
During 3 days, a digital platform hosted nearly 90 events and involved nearly 500 personalities and civil society actors, including many young people.
The goal was to build intergenerational, multi-stakeholder and sustainable partnerships that will foster global commitment and action on critical gender equality issues.
These partnerships, called "coalitions of action," involve governments, civil society and the private sector. They have been given concrete targets for the next five years.
The crisis related to the pandemic has had a particularly significant impact on women and girls. Its consequences on gender equality are fully integrated into the work of the Forum’s action coalitions.
