France’s participation in the World Water Forum (Brasilia, 18-23 .03.18)
The eighth World Water Forum is meeting in Brasilia from March 18 to 23. It brings together actors working in the field of water on a global scale to promote a lasting political commitment to this resource stressed by growing need, pollution, and climate change.
The French delegation, working within the French Water Partnership, is being led by French Ambassador for the Environment Xavier Sticker.
At a time when two billion people lack safe, affordable access to drinking water and sanitation, France calls for a resolute commitment to be determined during the revision of the sustainable development goal relating to water and sanitation at the next high-level political forum on sustainable development in New York from July 9 to 18. France will argue for the establishment of specific action-levers such as the operational follow-up of progress toward established ambitions, the concerted management of water resources shared by several states as a tool for conflict prevention, and nature-based solutions.
During the forum, France will highlight the initiatives that it promotes on the international scene, such as the United Nations Global Compact and the CREWS initiative aimed at giving the people of developing countries access to early warning systems via hydro-meteorological services in the event of climate-related risks of extreme events.
